In a forest all the roots of living organisms are connected to one another. This is how they communicate. The roots of many organisms are connected with eachother which results into one big underground network. This network is created by the the fungus underground, they connect all the organisms. When willows are threatened by insect pests, they emit a chemical warning to nearby trees, who secrete more tannin to put the invaders off.
We humans use technology to communicate in the same way as the organisms in the forest do. We have have our own internet to communicate with each other over long distances. With this sound installation I want to show these similarities of networks. The sounds that the plants produces are recordings of the electromagnetic sound waves of a mobile phone, router and a laptop. Three devices that we use the most that connects us to the network of the internet.
